Do You Want Blessing?
By Rev. John

Kings 3:15-18 And he said, "Thus says the LORD: 'Make this
valley full of ditches.' 17"For thus says the LORD: 'You
shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley
shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and
your animals may drink.' 18"And this is a simple matter in
the sight of the LORD; He will also deliver the Moabites
into your hand. NKJV
This passage of scripture is dealing with three kings who
came in alignment together to go in battle against Moab, but
they didn’t prepare for the journey and they were without
water and life was being threatened. So they came to the
prophet Elisha and He gives them a word from the Lord, “Make
this valley full of ditches” This didn’t come in a time when
they were ready to work, for they had travel and now they
were tired and thirsty and no water to drink. They had to go
to work and get the valley ready to receive the water that
was coming from the Lord.
I
believe that God is saying the same thing to us in our
lives, we need to make fresh room for the increase of God’s
blessing for our lives. They had a word from the Lord, but
the condition for that word was in their willingness to work
on the valley they were camped in. We all want to be in
another place, anywhere but our difficult situation. It is
right were we are we must get a attitude of depth and say,
Lord I will obey, I will dig, I will make room for what you
are going to do. In our valley times, those times when we
are not high above things, but right in the middle of
crises, we must get out our shovel of obedience and dig into
our hearts and make room for God increase. This is when we
say Yes Lord, when we feel like saying I give up. This is
the times when we continue faithful when we are
disillusioned. You see these people were tired, they were
sick, but Yet they began to prepare their valley for the
coming rain. We don’t have to be dry in a valley if we have
prepared a place in us for God’s increase. The amount of
blessing was defined by their obedience to dig ditches. The
amount of blessing is defined in us by our willingness to
allow the word of God to go deep in us. For the deeper the
word, the more He can fill with life. It is always easy to
work when you have evidence that blessing is on the way. I
bet you if you were digging a natural ditch to catch the
water and you saw the clouds and felt the wind began to
blow, you would be motivated to dig and not hesitate to get
that valley ready.
But in this story, God was not going to give them any
natural encouragement to dig, no wind, no rain, no clouds,
just a word. Isn’t that the way we are also, God asks us to
prepare our hearts and then says Trust me, even though
nothing in your valley looks good at all. They had to dig in
faith, trusting the word of the Lord. We must also do the
same, do what the Lord has told us to do and then wait upon
the Lord. I wish sometimes the Lord would give me natural
incentives, to help me stay motivated, but He just says,
“You dig, You be obedient, and I will do the rest! Your
valley will turn into a well water place, because you have
positioned yourself for blessing. God is stirring us to make
places for His blessing. Lay aside our agenda and embrace
the word of God for the hour. Get you heart open to the
moving of the Holy Spirit. Stop making excuses and say, “Yes
Lord, I make room for your outpouring. “ Isn’t it exciting
when God moves and your receiving the increase! A hole in
the ground doesn’t look that exciting, but fill it with
water and that’s entirely different. Nobody likes the
process, but everybody likes the increase. But we can’t get
the increase without the process.
So
our valley must be changed from discouragement to
expectation, for God is going to fill the valleys with
water. Water always represents life, it represents the flow
of God provision and care to His people. God is saying Dig..
Dig and get your heart ready to receive the filling He is
bringing in this hour. Will we respond? Will we obey? Will
we dig and say, “I am ready for the filling of God
blessing?” It isn’t a matter of will God send the increase?
It is are we ready to receive it! I believe that we must be
a church ready to receive the blessing that God desires to
bring into our lives. We are seeing God move in mighty ways,
but we haven’t seen anything yet. Look at where you are and
say, I am going to get some depth in this valley I am in. I
am going to stop complaining and start expecting God to do
something unique, something supernatural. The prophet said,
this is a simple thing to God. Our greatest need is but a
simple thing for God to bring. But when he brings our
increase, will He find a place to place it? As Mary said,
“Be it unto me according to thy word” Let us come in full
agreement with the word of the Lord and be a prepared place
for living water to fill. Get excited for the increase of
God is coming to those who are willing and obedient to do
what the Lord is calling us to do!
